usually is not the first thing that comes to mind
then you think about California. Most people associate
this great state with the ocean, surfing, and movies.
There is, however, an undiscovered part of California
that is ripe with adventure and fun - Biking!
Western
Spirit Cycling offers a road
bike trip in California that rivals the Rockies,
the Alps, and possibly the Pyrennees. And what better
way to spend time with your cycling club than to take
everyone on a bike trip with Western Spirit. You and
your club friends will enjoy the biking challenges
and unparalleled scenery, while your Western Spirit
guides will cook meals, offer support vechicles, and
all of the other necessities of a multi-day adventure
of a lifetime!
This
road-bike trip will traverse the jagged coastal mountains
of Sonoma and Mendocino counties. Sonoma is famous
for their wineries...and wine! You'll see the coast
several times on this journey, but our main focus
is on the hilly ribbon roads that crisscross the coastal
range. When we say "hilly" - it is a bit
of an understatement, so bring your best pair of legs
on this trip!
Of
course, you'll see some of the most beautiful vineyards
of California. Glistening grapes in symmetrical rows
will ease your mind as your legs power your bike.
You'll then ride through amazing forests of towering
redwoods - nature's skyscrapers. We'll then climb
a narrow and twisting farm road past oak trees and
madrones - the precursor to the plummet you'll then
experience down toward the spectacular Pacific Coast.
The
great thing about the routes that we have chosen is
that there will be minimal traffic..but maximum fun
and pleasure. Don't get us wrong, though. You'll need
to be experienced and in good shape. We'll cover 45-75
miles per day, and several thousand feet of elevation
to boot! 20% grades are not uncommon on this trip
either.
